As businesses increasingly rely on artificial intelligence (AI) agents to make decisions and execute tasks, ensuring the reliability of the data behind them has become a critical priority. Boomi, the data activation company for AI, has acquired Elementary Data, a provider of data observability solutions, to strengthen its platform with capabilities for data quality, governance, monitoring, and discovery.
The acquisition follows Boomi’s earlier acquisition of Lunar.dev and expands the Boomi Enterprise Platform with tools designed to help organizations deliver reliable, contextualized data to applications, devices, and AI agents.
Founded in 2022 as an open-source project, Elementary has been adopted by more than 1,500 data teams, records 1.1 million monthly downloads, and supports a community of approximately 4,000 members. In 2024, the company introduced Elementary Cloud, adding enterprise-grade capabilities to its open-source foundation.
Addressing The Data Reliability Challenge In AI
As enterprises move beyond AI pilots and deploy agentic workflows in production, unreliable data can create significant operational risks. AI agents acting on outdated, inaccurate, or ungoverned information may make incorrect decisions and take consequential actions before problems are detected.
A July 2026 Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Boomi found that 86% of leaders said their organizations had moved beyond AI agent pilots, but only 34% trusted the actions their agentic systems take. Organizations that deployed agents before they were ready also reported an average of US$2.1 million in additional costs.
Elementary aims to address these challenges by helping data teams detect, investigate, and resolve data issues before they affect dashboards, models, devices, and AI agents.
“AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it,” said Steve Lucas, chairman and CEO of Boomi. He noted that Elementary’s adoption across data teams and its growing open-source community will help Boomi strengthen the observability, quality, and governance capabilities needed to make enterprise data reliable and ready for AI.
Bringing Data Observability Into The Boomi Platform
Elementary will add several capabilities to the Boomi Enterprise Platform, including agent-driven monitoring that detects data freshness, volume, and quality anomalies before they affect downstream systems. Its tools also provide column-level data lineage across ingestion, transformation, semantic layers, business intelligence, and AI.
Additional capabilities include a shared data catalog with ownership information, tags, and health scores; a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes data context and health information to AI tools and agents; and AI agents that automate test creation, incident triage, governance, and performance optimization.
These features complement Boomi’s Active Data Foundation, which moves, contextualizes, and governs data across enterprise environments. By combining data in motion with observability and quality controls, the platform aims to make trusted information available wherever applications and AI agents need it.
Unlike traditional data platforms that primarily manage information at rest, Boomi’s approach emphasizes activating data across systems and workflows while maintaining the context and governance needed for enterprise use.
Making Trusted Data The Default For AI
Elementary’s open-source origins reflect its focus on integrating data reliability into modern data workflows. Its cloud offering builds on that foundation with capabilities designed to help organizations scale monitoring and governance across enterprise environments.
“When agents act on your data at machine speed, trust in that data stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the foundation the whole enterprise stands on,” said Maayan Salom, CEO and co-founder of Elementary. She added that joining Boomi, which serves more than 30,000 customers and works with over 800 partners, will help make trusted data more accessible to enterprises adopting AI.
The acquisition reinforces Boomi’s strategy of bringing together integration, automation, data management, and AI governance in a unified platform. As organizations expand their use of AI agents, the combined capabilities are intended to help them identify data problems earlier, strengthen oversight, and build greater confidence in AI-driven operations.
