Vena Energy, a leading green energy solutions provider in the Asia-Pacific region, celebrated World Environment Day with a large-scale ceremonial tree-planting activity in Sitio Kilingan, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal.
The initiative brought together 19 employee volunteers and 100 members of the local community conservation group, Samahan ng Magsasaka sa Kilingan-Panusugin, Inc. (SMKPI), in support of the national goal of planting at least five million trees across the country by 2028.
Held under the theme “Plant a Tree, Make a Change Today!”, the activity supports the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Forests for Life (FFL) program. Volunteers planted 200 seedlings, including 50 molave, 100 white lauan, and 50 soursop trees, demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation.
“As a company dedicated to accelerating the energy transition, we ensure that our responsibility to the environment extends beyond our renewable energy projects,” said Samrinder Nehria, Head of Vena Energy in the Philippines. He added that the activity marks the company’s first step toward its commitment to adopt and plant trees across an initial 50 hectares of forest land, with plans to support more areas in need of rehabilitation.
The tree-planting initiative follows a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between Vena Energy and the DENR in February 2026, formalizing the company’s support for the Forests for Life program, which aims to restore forests, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and strengthen community livelihoods.
During the event, Vena Energy also signed a second MOA with SMKPI, committing to plant 28,000 trees across 50 hectares in Rizal. The agreement marks the first partnership between SMKPI and a private-sector organization, with the community group overseeing the establishment and maintenance of the plantation.
Bryan Ulic-Ulic, Provincial Coordinator of the Community-Based Forest Management program under the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Rizal, highlighted the importance of the initiative.
“The importance of trees includes both tangible and intangible benefits, such as better climatic conditions that cannot be measured in monetary terms. This initiative will be one of our solutions for a sustainable environment,” he said.
Rizal was selected for the project because of its ecological significance to the Greater Metro Manila area and its importance as the host province of several of Vena Energy’s renewable energy projects and community programs.
The initiative reflects Vena Energy’s broader sustainability strategy and commitment to corporate social responsibility by encouraging employees and communities to take an active role in environmental conservation.
