The Philippines is taking another step toward a more connected digital economy as Philippine Payments Management, Inc. (PPMI) and Ant International’s Alipay+ officially enable Alipay+ on QR Ph, linking the country’s digital payments network with international consumers and businesses.
The partnership supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) digital payments transformation goals as the use of cashless transactions continues to grow. According to the BSP’s 2025 Report on E-Payments Measurement, digital payments accounted for 64.69% of retail transaction volume in the Philippines, while QR Ph transactions increased more than 13 times in 2025.
With Alipay+ connected to QR Ph, international consumers can use their home e-wallets and banking apps to scan and pay at QR Ph-accepting merchants across the country. Local merchants can receive payments from Alipay+ partner users through their existing QR Ph codes, without requiring a separate QR payment setup.
The integration is particularly significant for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), giving local businesses an easier way to serve international travelers and digital consumers while opening opportunities for cross-border commerce.
“Through our partnership with Alipay+, we are extending that connectivity beyond our borders, enabling Filipino merchants—particularly SMEs—to serve international customers more seamlessly,” said Carmelita “Melit” Araneta, General Manager of PPMI.
For Alipay+, the partnership demonstrates how local payment infrastructure can connect businesses to a wider global marketplace.
“Our role is to make it as easy as possible for a customer to pay with the mobile app they already use, while helping the merchant participate in a much bigger marketplace,” said Danny Chung, General Manager of Alipay+ Global Growth Center, Ant International.
The partnership also forms part of Alipay+’s broader expansion of interoperable mobile payments, with the platform now connected to 10+ national QR schemes across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Alipay+ currently connects more than 2 billion consumer accounts, over 50 mobile payment providers, 10+ national switches, and QR and NFC merchants across 220+ markets, further positioning digital payments as a gateway for businesses entering the global economy.
