FedEx partnered with Rise Against Hunger Philippines in Cebu to prepare 10,000 nutritious meals for underserved communities, supporting the health and well-being of public school students.
The volunteer activity was held during Purple Week as part of the FWS Day of Service, an initiative honoring FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith and encouraging employees to give back to the communities they serve. Sixty FedEx volunteers came together to package the meals, which are expected to provide nutritional support to around 166 public school students in Cordova, Cebu, for at least 120 days.
Each meal pack contains rice, dehydrated soy, vegetables or fruits, flavoring mix, and micronutrient powder fortified with 18 essential vitamins and minerals. These nutrients help support children’s growth, cognitive development, immune function, and overall well-being.
The initiative comes as child nutrition remains a pressing concern in the Philippines. According to the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s 2025 Updating Survey, stunting among Filipino children under five increased to 25.3% in 2025, marking the first rise recorded since 2015.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential, and proper nutrition is an important foundation for that journey,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director of FedEx Philippines.
The latest effort builds on FedEx and Rise Against Hunger Philippines’ previous collaboration, which provided 3,600 meals to Aeta communities in Pampanga.
Through initiatives like these, both organizations continue to work toward addressing food insecurity and creating healthier, more hopeful futures for vulnerable communities across the Philippines.
