Chinese-Filipino American singer-songwriter Eila is returning to the Philippines for the first time in 12 years, bringing with her a deeply personal new chapter in her music.
Based in New Jersey, the rising artist is set to release “Loving Me Wrong,” an alternative R&B and contemporary pop track that explores love, heartbreak, and the journey toward recognizing one’s self-worth. The atmospheric single follows “Living Proof,” a feel-good anthem about genuine love that previewed the sound of her upcoming EP.
While “Living Proof” celebrates the excitement of falling in love, “Loving Me Wrong” takes a more introspective turn, reflecting on the emotional highs and lows of staying in a relationship that no longer serves you. Eila hopes the song will validate listeners who have experienced similar struggles while reminding them not to settle for less than they deserve.
The track was born during a songwriting camp, marking a turning point in Eila’s creative journey as she learned to embrace collaboration, experimentation, and vulnerability.
Her return to the Philippines makes the release even more meaningful. Eila last visited the country in 2014, when she performed on the television program Walang Tulugan. Twelve years and 18 releases later, she returns with greater confidence in her music and identity as an artist.
With both parents having grown up in the Philippines, Eila says her Chinese-Filipino roots have deeply influenced her love for music, from family karaoke sessions to the community-centered role music played in her upbringing.
The Philippines is now Eila’s second-largest listening market on Spotify. As she reconnects with Filipino audiences, she also plans to continue performing Filipino song covers to celebrate her heritage and honor artists who helped pave the way for greater Asian representation.
