Philippine insurtech company RuralNet has reached a major milestone, surpassing ₱400 million in insurance payouts across more than 33,000 processed claims, underscoring the scale and viability of its digital microinsurance platform.

The achievement comes as the company prepares to expand into natural calamity insurance protection by the third quarter of 2026, a move aimed at strengthening financial resilience among vulnerable communities amid increasing climate-related risks. The expansion follows advisories from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) regarding the onset of El Niño conditions, which are expected to contribute to weather-related challenges through early 2027.

Founded in 2018, RuralNet has built an API-driven insurance platform that now serves more than 6 million Filipinos. Through partnerships with insurers, rural banks, cooperatives, and microfinance institutions, the company has established a presence in 81 of the country’s 82 provinces, helping bring insurance services to communities traditionally underserved by the financial sector.

Despite recent improvements in insurance awareness, significant gaps remain. According to industry data, insurance penetration in the Philippines remains relatively low, particularly among rural and low-income households. RuralNet’s digital-first approach seeks to address this challenge by making insurance products more accessible, affordable, and easier to distribute.

“As a social impact company, RuralNet was founded to provide a safety net for low-income Filipino families who are most vulnerable to financial shocks,” said Justin Arcenas, Founder and CEO of RuralNet Inc. “This milestone demonstrates that affordable microinsurance can deliver meaningful protection while also serving as a scalable and sustainable business model. Our upcoming calamity protection products are designed to help communities recover more quickly from the growing impact of climate-related disasters.”

A key factor behind RuralNet’s growth has been its proprietary digital infrastructure, which has streamlined insurance claims processing. The company reports that its platform enables payouts significantly faster than traditional industry timelines while maintaining a high claims approval rate. By digitizing insurance distribution through partner institutions, RuralNet has also reduced operating costs and expanded its reach more efficiently.

Supporting this ecosystem is CashKO Insurance Brokerage, RuralNet’s wholly owned subsidiary and one of the country’s leading microinsurance providers. CashKO has facilitated protection coverage for millions of Filipinos through a growing network of distribution partners and thousands of service locations nationwide.

The company’s upcoming calamity insurance offerings will focus on rural households, farmers, and communities vulnerable to typhoons, flooding, and drought. The initiative aims to provide quicker access to financial assistance following disasters and strengthen long-term climate resilience among underserved sectors.
