Okada Manila continues to turn food rescue into meaningful community support, donating 2,019 kilograms of rescued food through Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines from January to September 2026. The donations were equivalent to approximately 8,480 meals for communities in need.

Building on these efforts, the resort prepared and distributed 250 meals in Sta. Ana, Manila, in observance of World Food Day through its Food Rescue Kitchen Program. The initiative brought together Okada Manila team members and SOS Philippines to help address food waste while providing meals to vulnerable communities.

The partnership also delivered environmental benefits, with SOS Philippines reporting an estimated reduction of 5,108 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) associated with the food rescue efforts during the nine-month period.

Bringing Food Rescue To The Community

For the World Food Day activity, Okada Manila’s Food and Beverage Division led team members in preparing ingredients, cooking, packing, and distributing meals alongside SOS Philippines at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Sta. Ana.

Beneficiaries included people experiencing homelessness and persons deprived of liberty from Precinct Station 6 in Sta. Ana, Manila. Beyond meal preparation and distribution, team members also helped serve beneficiaries and clean the kitchen after the activity.

“Hospitality is ultimately about caring for people, and we believe that responsibility can extend beyond the resort. Through our partnership with SOS Philippines, rescued food can help provide meals to communities that need them. Seeing our team members prepare and distribute these meals in Sta. Ana brings that commitment to life and makes community support part of how we practice hospitality,” said Mr. Andreas Balla, Vice President of the Food and Beverage Division.

The team’s participation reflects the Talent and Community pillar of Okada Green Heart, extending the resort’s culture of care beyond its property and into the communities it serves.

Sustaining Community And Environmental Impact

Through SOS Philippines, Okada Manila’s food donations have supported communities in Malambing, Pook Malinis, and Project PEARLS Batia, as well as persons deprived of liberty at Camp Karingal.

Food rescue activities during the year also reached the Guadalupe Viejo Community Complex in Makati City and Universidad de Manila, extending the partnership’s impact across different communities.

The Sta. Ana initiative forms part of Okada Manila’s continuing efforts to connect food waste reduction with community assistance. By working with SOS Philippines, the resort aims to ensure that rescued food serves a purpose beyond its original use while supporting people who need it most.
