Limited access to formal financing remains a challenge for many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines. While MSMEs account for 99.6% of businesses and employ more than 65% of the workforce, many entrepreneurs continue to face barriers such as limited collateral, insufficient financial records, and little or no credit history.

Kevin Yu, Head of B2B at Fuse Financing Inc., GCash’s lending arm, highlighted the need for more inclusive and data-driven financing solutions during several MSME-focused events, including the DTI National Forum on Strengthening MSME Disaster Resilience 2026, GoNegosyo MSME Summit 2026, and Inquirer ESG Connect.

Building A Digital Financial Footprint

Through GCash for Business, entrepreneurs can accept digital payments and manage transactions while building a digital financial footprint. The resulting alternative data can help financing providers better understand business activity and assess credit opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs, including first-time formal borrowers.

Eligible businesses can access financing through GLoan Negosyo on the GCash app, with loans of up to ₱350,000, while qualified merchants using the GCash for Business Portal can access loans of up to ₱2 million. These facilities can support inventory purchases, working capital, and business expansion.

“Financial resilience is more than access to loans. Business owners need solutions that help them earn, manage, protect, and grow their income,” Yu said.

Beyond financing, GCash also highlights financial education and responsible lending as important components of MSME resilience. Programs such as the Wais Tindera Caravan bring practical financial knowledge to communities, helping entrepreneurs manage cash flow and make more informed decisions about digital financial tools.

Fuse Financing also maintains a fully digital collections process with a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, emphasizing fair treatment throughout the borrowing journey.

As of the second quarter of 2026, Fuse Financing reported disbursing ₱451 billion in loans to 11.5 million borrowers nationwide, with one in three borrowers identified as an NMSME.

By combining digital payments, financing, financial education, and responsible lending practices, GCash and Fuse Financing aim to help more Filipino entrepreneurs strengthen their businesses and contribute to broader economic growth.
