Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank), the consumer and retail banking arm of the Metrobank Group, has received the highest Issuer Credit Rating of PRS Aaa (corp.), with a Stable Outlook, from the Philippine Rating Services Corporation (PhilRatings).
A company assigned a PRS Aaa (corp.) rating has a very strong capacity to meet its financial commitments compared with other Philippine corporates. It is the highest Issuer Credit Rating given by PhilRatings. A Stable Outlook indicates that the rating is likely to be maintained or remain unchanged over the next 12 months.
PhilRatings cited three key considerations behind the rating: PSBank’s solid market position, sound capitalization and asset quality, and the strength of its parent company alongside its highly experienced management team.
Strong Market Position and Financial Performance
Based on data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), PSBank remained the country’s largest thrift bank in terms of assets as of June 30, 2026. The Bank reported total assets of ₱232.0 billion and ranked first among thrift banks in terms of capital, with ₱44.2 billion.
PSBank has also maintained a significant presence in consumer banking, particularly in the thrift banking sector’s auto and real estate loan segments.
Sound Capitalization and Asset Quality
The Bank’s financial position is further supported by its capitalization and asset quality. As of end-June 2026, PSBank recorded a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 24.0%, comfortably above the regulatory requirement.
Its gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio stood at 4.0%, comparing favorably with the 6.3% gross NPL ratio recorded by the thrift banking sector.
Backed by Metrobank and Experienced Leadership
As of June 30, 2026, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) held an 88.4% equity stake in PSBank. A BSP-licensed universal bank, Metrobank is among the largest banks in the Philippines.
PSBank is led by President Jose Vicente L. Alde, who has held the position since 2018 and has been with the Bank since 2007. Before his appointment as President, he served as Executive Vice President. He also serves as Secretary of the Chamber of Thrift Banks, the umbrella organization of the country’s thrift banks.
Mr. Alde holds a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of the Philippines and a Master in Business Management degree from the Asian Institute of Management.
PhilRatings based its assessment on the available information and projections at the time the rating was assigned. The agency will continue to monitor developments concerning PSBank and may revise the rating or Outlook should circumstances warrant a change.
