Losing access to a digital wallet can be a major concern for cryptocurrency owners, especially those who manage their assets through self-custody. Bron, a self-custodial digital asset platform, has introduced FaceScan, a wallet recovery feature powered by iProov’s Dynamic Liveness™ technology that allows users to regain access through a single face scan.
The feature verifies the user’s Genuine Presence™ and confirms that they are the same person who originally set up the account. This offers an alternative for people who lose access to their passkeys or devices, without requiring a seed phrase or depending on another person to be available.
The need for accessible recovery options is growing alongside digital asset adoption. Research published in June 2026 estimated that 774 million people worldwide owned cryptocurrency. While self-custody gives individuals, families, and businesses direct control over their assets, it also places greater responsibility on users to protect their credentials and maintain access. Unlike traditional online accounts, self-custodial wallets may not have a central provider that can simply reset a password.
Flexible Recovery Without Compromising Self-Custody
FaceScan complements Bron’s existing Guardian recovery feature, which relies on two trusted contacts nominated by the user to help verify their identity. Users can choose either recovery method or activate both, depending on their preferences.
According to iProov founder and CEO Andrew Bud, FaceScan addresses one of the most difficult challenges in self-custody: restoring access without compromising security. The Dynamic Liveness™ technology checks that the account owner is physically present in front of the camera while helping protect against impersonation attempts.
Bron founder Dmitry Tokarev emphasized that users should not have to sacrifice control over their assets to make recovery possible. FaceScan is designed to verify the original account holder without requiring identity documents or seed phrases, or transferring custody of assets to Bron.
Available globally across devices and operating systems, FaceScan gives users another way to recover their wallets while retaining the independence that self-custody is designed to provide.
