James Reid embraces freedom, self-expression, and living in the moment with his new single “Sunny Side,” featuring producer and artist Luke April. Released on August 27, 2026, via Sony Music Entertainment, the alternative pop track blends vibrant production, laid-back rap, filtered drums, and guitars to create an effortlessly carefree sound.
Beyond its bright and easygoing mood, “Sunny Side” reflects Reid’s growing confidence in defining himself on his own terms. The song explores the freedom of choosing who he wants to be rather than allowing outside perceptions to shape his identity.
“Yes, it’s about freedom, but it’s also about feeling untouchable,” Reid shared. “Who I am is not defined by what people think; it’s who I choose to be despite what people think. Say what you want, I’ll be here on the sunny side.”
The track was created during a spontaneous week-long creative session in a makeshift outdoor studio at an Airbnb, where Reid, April, and other collaborators worked without strict expectations. The relaxed environment allowed the song to develop through improvisation, experimentation, and happy accidents.
April brought an alternative pop-rock approach influenced by artists such as Dominic Fike. He describes the track as intentionally dynamic, with each section offering something slightly different to make the listening experience feel like a musical journey.
The resulting track captures the carefree energy of sunny afternoons, spontaneous drives, casual gatherings, and days with no fixed plans. April cites Dominic Fike’s “Sunburn” and Jean Dawson’s “Bruiseboy” among the inspirations behind the song.
“Sunny Side” will also appear on Reid’s forthcoming album, honey, i’m home, set for release on September 10, 2026. The album reflects a more assured chapter in Reid’s life and artistry, centered on acceptance, self-love, and personal freedom.
As Reid puts it, “Honey, I’m home comes from a place of quiet confidence: a self-assuring kind of love, from freedom as acceptance, not rebellion. Home is where I’m most myself.”
“Sunny Side” by James Reid featuring Luke April is available on digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
