The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC), presents “Malikhaing Pinoy: Lahi”, a couture fashion showcase celebrating Filipino creativity, heritage, and identity. Scheduled for January 30, 2026, in Bangkok, the event features a 30-piece collection by renowned designer Rajo Laurel, exploring Philippine history, culture, and community through contemporary artistry. The showcase also strengthens a landmark partnership between PCIDC and Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA), promoting cross-border collaboration and trade.

“Who is the Filipino?” Laurel reflects. “Fashion allows me to explore heritage, identity, and culture—not only through materials but through our people, values, and stories that remain relevant today and for future generations.” His vision is realized with handcrafted works and accessories by celebrated Filipino creatives, including Arnel Papa, Celestina Maristela Ocampo, Cholo Ayuyao, Monchét Diokno Olives, and MX Studios by Maxine Santos Tuaño, producing cohesive, head-to-toe ensembles.

The collection highlights regional craftsmanship and cultural narratives. “Mestiza” reimagines the traditional palma and camisa ensemble with jusi from Iloilo and abaca from Abra, accented with silk blooms and coq feathers by Cholo Ayuyao. “Kadayawan” celebrates Mindanao festivals through handwoven straw from Sorsogon and rayon-silk culottes from Ilocos. “Datu” honors T’boli heritage with paper silk, ramie linen, malong, and Dumaguete bead tassels. Modern barong interpretations appear in “Manileña” and “Bagong Barong”, complemented by handmade accessories. Other ensembles showcase Mountain Province weaving paired with Celestina Maristela Ocampo’s crocodile bag, while “Paradiso”, created with Arnel Papa, fuses Palawan pearls, Bacolod capiz shells, and an oversized raffia clutch for a striking, ethereal effect.

Through “Malikhaing Pinoy: Lahi”, Laurel and his collaborators celebrate Filipino artistry and heritage, bridging tradition and innovation in a globally inspired showcase.
