Philippine small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are increasingly confident about expanding trade with Europe, according to a new FedEx survey examining Asia-Pacific (APAC) and European trade lanes. The study, conducted in September 2025 across 13 APAC and 9 European markets, polled over 2,000 SMEs and revealed a surge in cross-border commerce.

In APAC, 76% of SMEs reported increased exports to Europe over the past year, with the United Kingdom, Germany, and France leading growth. European SMEs are also optimistic, with 87% maintaining or increasing trade with APAC, particularly China, Japan, and South Korea. This reciprocal confidence reflects the Asia-Europe corridor’s 30 consecutive months of growth, highlighting robust opportunities for businesses of all sizes.

Key drivers include strong consumer demand, improved pricing competitiveness for APAC products, strategic expansion opportunities, and favorable trade agreements. Yet, challenges remain: complex customs procedures, regulatory shifts, and global market volatility concern 86% of APAC SMEs and 78% of European SMEs. Many are turning to digital tools and expert customs support to streamline shipping, track deliveries, and manage costs effectively.

“Philippine SMEs’ confidence in Europe signals the country’s growing role in global commerce,” said Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Philippines. “FedEx supports this momentum through reliable logistics, digital tools, and trade expertise that help businesses navigate cross-border challenges.”

To meet demand, FedEx recently added five weekly flights connecting APAC to Europe, enhancing delivery speed and reliability. Its integrated air-and-road network, anchored in Paris and Liege, Belgium, now supports over 550 pick-up and delivery stations across 45 countries, ensuring express shipments reach major European destinations in as little as 48 hours.

The FedEx survey underscores the growing Asia-Europe trade corridor and the strategic role of digital logistics solutions in helping SMEs seize global opportunities.
