Now in its 58th year, the Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) remains one of the country’s longest-running and most respected student art competitions. For generations, it has nurtured the passion and creativity of young Filipino artists, serving as a platform where purpose, culture, and self-expression converge.

For many participants, joining Shell NSAC marks the beginning of something bigger than themselves. It’s more than a contest — it’s a journey of discovering that art can move communities, celebrate heritage, and preserve Filipino identity.

Celebrating the Journey of the Filipino Artist
Through the years, Shell NSAC has continuously evolved, with each theme inspiring works that capture the Filipino experience. For Jason Mendoza, 2024’s first-place winner in the Sculpture category, the competition became a turning point. His winning piece, inspired by his hometown’s pottery community, was a tribute to cultural heritage and hope. “Creating something from scratch was intimidating,” he shared. “But trusting my instincts helped me start, and everything else fell into place.”

For Clarence Dingding, first-place winner in Digital Fine Arts, Shell NSAC became a bridge between tradition and modern expression. Surrounded by a supportive community of artists, he found that creativity thrives most when shared.

Meanwhile, Luigi Galo, Oil and Acrylic category winner, emphasized how Shell’s support helps elevate art appreciation nationwide. “You just have to trust the process and keep going,” he said.

Supporting the Future of Filipino Art
Beyond the competition, Shell NSAC has built a growing ecosystem of artists who continue to shape the nation’s creative landscape. The program underscores Shell’s enduring commitment to nation-building and youth empowerment through the arts.

Every participant’s journey proves that believing in one’s craft is the first step to changing the world through art.

The 58th Shell NSAC Awarding Ceremony will be held this December 2025 at the Ayala Museum, celebrating the next generation of Filipino artists taking the spotlight.
