Rakuten Viki is expanding its Korean drama lineup with A Bona Fide Killer, a suspense-driven series that combines high-stakes action, family drama, and mystery.

Premiering exclusively in Southeast Asia on July 31, the series follows an ordinary working mother who secretly leads a double life as one of the world’s most feared assassins.

Based on the popular Kakao webtoon, which has accumulated 180 million views, A Bona Fide Killer centers on Yoo Bo-na (Kong Hyo Jin), a devoted wife and mother whose seemingly ordinary life conceals a dangerous secret.

Bo-na lives with her husband, newspaper reporter Kwon Tae-seong (Jung Jun Won), and their young daughter. Unknown to them, she is actually “Kingfisher,” a legendary sniper working for a covert organization tasked with eliminating some of the world’s most dangerous criminals.

After taking a three-year maternity leave, Bo-na returns to the field, forcing her to navigate the demands of motherhood and marriage alongside high-risk assassination missions. Her carefully protected identity faces its biggest threat when Tae-seong is assigned to investigate the mysterious killer known as Kingfisher.

The series explores the collision between extraordinary responsibilities and everyday family life, using Bo-na’s secret identity to examine marriage, parenthood, survival, and the lengths one will go to protect loved ones.

Kong Hyo Jin returns to television

A Bona Fide Killer marks the highly anticipated television return of Kong Hyo Jin, one of South Korea’s most acclaimed actresses.

Known for performances in dramas including Master’s Sun, It’s Okay, That’s Love, The Producers, When the Camellia Blooms, and When the Stars Gossip, Kong takes on one of her most unconventional roles yet as a highly skilled assassin determined to protect both her family and her secret.

She is joined by Jung Jun Won, who recently gained international attention for his performance in Resident Playbook. Following years of memorable supporting roles, including in VIP, Jung takes on his first project after the medical drama, portraying a character that further highlights his emotional range.

Veteran actors Sung Dong Il and Lee Sang Yi round out the cast.
