PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc.’s social outreach arm, PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), has strengthened its support for agricultural education by donating digital learning tools, office equipment, and planting kits to Cebu Technological University Cebu City Mountain Campus (CTU CCM) as part of its nationwide back-to-school initiative.
Located in the upland communities of Cebu City, CTU CCM has become a key educational institution serving students from across the Visayas and Mindanao. Surrounded by farming communities and eco-tourism sites, the campus offers agriculture-focused programs that help develop skills and support local livelihoods.
The donation reflects PSF’s commitment to empowering future agricultural leaders by providing resources that enhance learning while promoting sustainability.
“Young people have the capacity to shape the future of agriculture, not only through modern technology, but through fresh ideas and a commitment to serve their communities. We hope these resources encourage students to think beyond the classroom and become changemakers who will help us build a more connected and empowered Philippines,” said Ma. Esther O. Santos, President of PLDT-Smart Foundation.
As part of the initiative, the university’s Agriculture Department received a laptop loaded with e-learning materials, a printer, and office supplies to support instruction, research, and student learning. The equipment is expected to make a significant difference, particularly for students with limited access to digital resources.
“Thank you so much to PSF for donating these supplies to us. This is our first time receiving a donation like this. This is very helpful for our instruction, research, and for our students because most of them do not even have a laptop,” said Dr. Alma Rosillo-Magno, faculty member of CTU CCM’s Agriculture Department.
Beyond digital learning, PLDT and Smart also donated #PlantSmart kits containing vegetable seeds, loam soil, and fertilizers to support the campus garden while encouraging students to practice sustainable agriculture and food production.
The initiative forms part of PSF’s broader efforts to improve access to quality education through digital technology while inspiring young Filipinos to contribute to the country’s agricultural sector. It also supports the PLDT Group’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education.
