An independent film about friendship, ambition, and the dark side of the music industry arrives in select Ayala Malls cinemas on March 18 — and its timing couldn’t be more pointed.
Songs For Selina follows two musical soulmates whose bond is tested by a cutthroat industry, a premise that landed with fresh urgency after a young Filipino artist’s viral account of exploitation and unfair treatment by a record label recently made headlines.
The film is executive produced by Jay R, who describes it as both a love letter to music and a call for industry reform. “Not everything that glitters is gold, and every opportunity comes with a cost,” he said. “At its core, the film is a reminder to stay anchored in your values and moral compass, especially when navigating ambition and success.”
Lead star and co-producer Mica Javier, who plays Selina, drew from her own career for the role. “The film explores the highs and lows artists experience while chasing their dreams, and the sacrifices that often come with that pursuit,” she said. Rachel Coates plays Maya, with an ensemble cast that includes Rachel Alejandro, Audie Gemora, Nicole Laurel, Leanne Mamonong, Gian Magdangal, Gabby Padilla, and Jay R.
Before its Philippine release, the film was picked up by Amazon Prime US and Tubi, expanding its reach to international audiences.
Songs For Selina is produced by Homeworkz Entertainment and distributed locally by Black Cap Pictures.
