Drawing from Filipino history, spirituality, and fashion, the music video transforms Lustre into a warrior princess navigating a fictional, lawless world. Set against expansive fields and grasslands, the visuals blend pre-colonial Filipino-inspired motifs with a modern dystopian aesthetic, creating a cinematic setting that reflects the song’s fearless energy.
A Visual World Rooted In Identity
With Lustre leading the creative direction, “DONUTS” explores themes of transformation, personal power, identity, and creative freedom.
“The video connects to a bigger body of work, which explores transformation, stepping into your power, and becoming more comfortable with who you are,” Lustre shares. “I wanted that world to feel rooted in being Filipino, with influences subtly woven in setting, style, and imagery.”
While she took an active role in shaping the project, Lustre also emphasized the collaborative process behind bringing the concept to life. From styling and production design to movement and cinematography, the production team contributed their own perspectives to the final visual experience.
Apl.de.Ap praised the team’s approach, particularly the mythical and cinematic quality of the music video. “I love the video,” he shares. “It’s so mythical. Nadine and the team have such a unique lens.”
