Some feelings are difficult to put into words, especially when they begin to change a friendship. James Reid and Kathryn Bernardo capture that familiar emotional crossroads in “Aaminin,” a romantic pop ballad that serves as the new official theme song of the hit teleserye Someone, Someday.
Inspired by the complicated experience of falling for a close friend, the song explores longing, vulnerability, and the uncertainty of admitting that a relationship may have become something more. It opens with James’ intimate line, “Nung una pa lang, pansin ko naman na ’di pang-magkaibigan lang,” setting the tone for a confession shaped by feelings that have long remained unspoken.
A Song From Jordan’s Perspective
The track began with James’ idea to create an original song inspired by the series, particularly Jordan’s perspective as he navigates his feelings for Billy, portrayed by Kathryn. Following a discussion with director Chad Vidanes, James developed the lyrical concept around a confession that reflects the characters’ evolving relationship.
“I thought writing a song from Jordan’s perspective could be interesting,” James shared. “I teamed up with Jason Marvin to make this song, and we had finished it in hopes that we could get Kathryn to sing on the track, and I’m very grateful that she did. The process didn’t require much thought because we have been close to these characters for almost a year. It’s a simple yet beautiful song, and our vocals blended really well.”
Having spent nearly a year portraying Jordan and Billy, James and Kathryn brought an intimate understanding of their characters’ emotional journey into the recording. Their voices blend naturally, adding sincerity and depth to the song’s romantic narrative.
An Honest Confession Through Music
Honesty guided the songwriting process, with James and Jason Marvin drawing inspiration from the series’ script, character breakdowns, and personal emotions. Jason also produced the track, shaping a stripped-down arrangement that gives the lyrics and vocals room to express the vulnerability of a private confession.
At its heart, “Aaminin” is about finding the courage to acknowledge what one feels, even without knowing where those feelings might lead.
“‘Aaminin’ is a song about hope and trusting your feelings, wherever they may lead,” James said.
