Women entrepreneurs in Pasig City are gaining practical tools to manage their businesses more confidently through a free accounting seminar organized by Global Dominion Financing, Inc., in partnership with the ROL Foundation and the Pasig City Local Economic Development and Investment Office (LEDIO).
Held at the Pasig City Temporary City Hall, the Basic Accounting for Non-Accountants seminar brought together women business owners from different municipalities and barangays, representing industries such as food, retail, and beauty services. Some participants had been operating for years, while others were just starting out, often balancing daily business operations with bookkeeping and other responsibilities.
The session forms part of GLOW (Giving Limitless Opportunities to Women), Global Dominion’s financing program for women-led businesses. Beyond offering loans at preferential rates, GLOW provides networking and learning opportunities designed to help women entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses.
“Women run many of the small businesses that keep our communities going, from the neighborhood sari-sari store to the home baker taking orders online,” said Global Dominion President and CEO Samuel Cariño. “They work hard, but many of them have had to learn the business side on their own. GLOW is our way of backing them up with fair financing and the practical knowledge to use it well. A loan can help a business grow. Understanding the numbers helps make sure that growth lasts.”
Making Business Numbers Easier To Understand
For many small business owners, maintaining financial records can take a back seat to serving customers and managing daily operations. Inconsistent bookkeeping and mixing personal and business finances can make it difficult to determine actual profits, set appropriate prices, prepare for slower months, and demonstrate financial readiness when applying for a loan.
Global Dominion Chief Operating Officer Melai Felicidario emphasized that financial literacy is an important complement to access to capital.
“Access to financing matters, but a woman who understands her numbers can make the most of her capital,” she said. “Through GLOW, we want to give women entrepreneurs the financing and the know-how. When they can see where their money comes from and where it goes, they make better decisions about when and how to grow.”
During the seminar, Global Dominion Accounting Manager Mary Grace Garrote introduced participants to key components of a business’s financial picture, including revenue, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, gross profit, and net income after tax. Using familiar business examples, she explained how to calculate these figures and understand what they reveal about profitability.
Participants also worked in groups to prepare sample financial statements using figures from a mock business. The hands-on exercise allowed them to organize sales and expenses, calculate profits, and present their results, helping turn accounting concepts into practical skills they could apply to their own businesses.
Building Better Habits For Sustainable Growth
During the open forum, Felicidario shared advice on recognizing when a business may be ready to expand, emphasizing the importance of consistently positive financial results.
“You’ll know it once your business starts showing positive numbers consistently,” she said. “And when you need an extra boost to get to the next level, financing companies like Global Dominion can help you get there.”
She also encouraged participants to separate personal and business finances and update their records regularly. These practices can help business owners identify rising expenses, unprofitable products, and other financial concerns before they become bigger problems.
For Fren Del Mendo, owner of a cake and pastry business, the seminar reinforced the value of learning alongside others who understand the challenges of entrepreneurship.
“A lot of us try to figure everything out through trial and error,” she said. “But nobody can do this alone. Support from the community and institutions makes it easier to keep going.”
Expanding Opportunities For Women Entrepreneurs
The Pasig seminar is one of several activities planned under GLOW as Global Dominion continues to combine financing with programs that help women manage and grow their businesses. The company intends to bring similar sessions to select cities across the Philippines in the coming months.
Partnerships with local government units, foundations, and private organizations will remain central to these efforts. Through collaboration with Pasig City LEDIO and the ROL Foundation, Global Dominion aims to reach more women entrepreneurs, including those operating micro and home-based businesses who may have limited access to formal financing and business training.
“A loan is only the start of what GLOW offers,” Cariño said. “Even women who don’t borrow from us can benefit from sessions like this. We believe that when we help a woman entrepreneur, we’re also helping her family and the community that depends on her business.”
Women entrepreneurs interested in GLOW may visit any Global Dominion branch nationwide or connect with the company through its official digital channels.
