ART DECO Event Poster FEU Marks Art Deco Centennial with Public Lectures and New Exhibition

Heritage advocate and Old Manila Walks founder Ivan Man Dy will open the program with Art Deco Lifestyle: Modern Living 1925–1950 at 10:30 AM on November 25 at the FC Auditorium. Man Dy, co-author of Deco Filipino: Art Deco Heritage in the Philippines 1925–1950, also serves as the special guest curator of “Art Deco: Design and Modernity 1925–2025” at the National Museum of the Philippines—this year’s flagship national exhibition marking the Art Deco centennial.

In the afternoon, heritage architect and architectural historian Paolo Andrew Hasegawa will deliver Deco and Democracy: Designing Provincial Capitol Buildings in the American Colonial Period at 3:00 PM in the University Library’s Special Collections Room. Hasegawa is recognized for his advocacy in heritage preservation and sustainability across Southeast Asia, contributing to organizations such as the Heritage Conservation Society and the Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance.

The celebration also includes the opening of an exhibition featuring the Art Deco elements of FEU’s five UNESCO-recognized heritage structures, captured through the lens of photographer Zymon Bumatay. The exhibit opens at 10:00 AM at the Ground Floor Lobby of the Administration Building.

The events are presented by the University Library and Corporate Affairs, continuing FEU’s long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting the country’s architectural heritage.
