2K and Gearbox Software have released the Version 1.8 update for Borderlands 4, introducing new endgame content, Cross-Platform Saves, and additional premium story content for players on Kairos.
The update is headlined by Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For, a new free endgame raid called Takedown at Hadron Abyss, and the return of the fan-favorite Circle of Slaughter mode.
Cross-Platform Saves now available
Version 1.8 officially introduces Cross-Platform Saves, allowing players to seamlessly transfer their Vault Hunter progress across any platform where they own Borderlands 4.
New story expansion: A Zane to Kill For
Available as part of Bounty Pack 3, A Zane to Kill For takes players into a neon-noir arcade game where they investigate the murder of Zane’s Digi-Clone backup.
The repeatable narrative expansion features:
- A new boss encounter
- Two new mini-bosses
- New high-tier loot
Also launching alongside the expansion is Vault Card 3, which rewards players with 24 arcade-themed cosmetic items and four rerollable gear pieces through gameplay. Beginning with this release, both A Zane to Kill For and Vault Card 3 are also available as standalone purchases.
Free endgame challenge
All players can access the new Takedown at Hadron Abyss, a free endgame raid unlocked after completing the main campaign.
Set inside a submerged underwater research facility overrun by mutated creatures and aquatic predators, the raid culminates in a battle against Child of Terramorphous.
Enemy difficulty scales according to party size, while players seeking an extra challenge can activate Mayhem levels or Hardcore mode, which limits players to a single life.
The raid introduces a variety of exclusive rewards, including:
- One new Pearlescent weapon
- Nine Legendary gear pieces
- Five new Class Mods, with a sixth arriving alongside the upcoming Vault Hunter in September
Circle of Slaughter returns
Responding to community demand, Gearbox has also brought back the Circle of Slaughter, the wave-based survival mode first popularized in Borderlands 3.
Players battle through five increasingly difficult rounds, each consisting of three waves, with bosses appearing during every third wave. After each completed round, players can either cash out their rewards or continue for greater loot and tougher challenges.
The mode also introduces new co-op mechanics, including a “penalty box” that allows eliminated teammates to either assist—or prank—the remaining players while spectating.
More content on the way
Gearbox also revealed its upcoming post-launch roadmap.
Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions launches on July 30 alongside the Version 1.9 update.
In early September, Story Pack 2 and Bounty Pack 5 will introduce a new playable Vault Hunter, Loveless the Hacker.
An ex-Anshin hacker turned assassin, Loveless uses advanced cybernetics alongside a sentient digital virus capable of manifesting into a physical combat companion.
Players who own the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition receive access to all content included in the Bounty Pack Bundle and Vault Hunter Pack, while the Deluxe Edition includes the Bounty Pack Bundle. Individual Bounty Packs and Story Packs are also available for separate purchase.
