Grab Philippines is giving Filipino teenagers more independence while helping parents stay connected to their journeys with the introduction of Grab for Family. The feature allows teens aged 13 to 17 to book rides independently while giving parents and guardians real-time visibility and additional safety controls.
The launch comes as the use of Grab Family Accounts continues to grow among Filipino households, with sign-ups more than doubling over the past year. Family members who join the program also take about 70% more rides during their first month, highlighting the role of shared mobility in everyday family routines.
Once a teen is linked to a Family Account, parents can receive real-time trip updates, track rides through a live map, and communicate with both the teen and driver. They can also receive notifications when a driver is assigned, the passenger is picked up, the destination is reached, and the trip is completed.
The feature provides additional monitoring when a trip does not go as expected, including alerts for unexpected stops or route deviations. Grab can also send in-app prompts to check on the passenger’s safety.
Grab for Family includes safeguards such as Ride PIN, which helps verify the correct vehicle before a trip begins, and 3-Way Chat, allowing parents to join conversations between teens and drivers. AudioProtect also enables encrypted audio recording during rides, with recordings accessible only to Grab’s safety team when a formal safety report is submitted.
Parents can activate the feature through the existing Grab app by inviting their teen via mobile number or a unique invitation link. Once linked, families can manage shared payment methods and applicable safety settings.
“Safety and peace of mind have always been important to how we serve families on Grab,” said Grab Philippines Head of Mobility CJ Lacsican, emphasizing the platform’s goal of supporting both teen independence and parental peace of mind.
