2K and Gearbox Software have unveiled Version 1.8 for Borderlands 4, introducing a substantial mix of free and premium endgame content arriving on June 25. The update expands the world of Kairos with new narrative-driven missions, a challenging raid, and long-requested cross-platform save support.
At the center of the update is Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For, a premium DLC that blends new story content with high-tier rewards. The expansion takes players into a neon-noir arcade setting where Vault Hunters investigate the murder of Zane’s Digi-Clone backup. The mission features a new boss and two mini-bosses as players uncover clues, battle enemies, and pursue the identity of the “Digi-killer.”
Alongside the narrative content is Vault Card 3, which unlocks arcade-themed cosmetics and gear, including 24 cosmetic items and four rerollable weapons obtainable through gameplay progression.
Version 1.8 also introduces a major free endgame challenge: the Takedown at Hadron Abyss. Accessible via the Raid Board after completing the main campaign, the new raid takes players to a submerged research facility filled with mutated creatures and aquatic enemies. The final encounter pits players against the Child of Terramorphous, with difficulty scaling based on party size. Players can further increase challenge through Mayhem levels or Hardcore one-life mode.
The raid offers high-value rewards, including dedicated boss drops such as a new Pearlescent weapon, nine Legendary items, and five Class Mods. A sixth Class Mod is expected to arrive in Q3 2026 alongside the next Vault Hunter update in Story Pack 2.
A major quality-of-life addition in Version 1.8 is Cross-Platform Saves, allowing players to carry progress seamlessly across all supported platforms where the game is owned.
Looking ahead, 2K and Gearbox outlined an ambitious post-launch roadmap. Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions is scheduled for July 30 with Version 1.9, followed by Bounty Pack 5 and Story Pack 2 in early September. The upcoming content will also introduce a new playable Vault Hunter, Loveless the Hacker, a cybernetically enhanced ex-Anshin assassin with a digital virus companion capable of manifesting physically.
Players who own the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition will automatically receive access to the full Bounty Pack Bundle and Story Packs, while Deluxe Edition owners receive the Bounty Pack Bundle. Individual content purchases will also be available.
