At one of Southeast Asia’s busiest maritime gateways, the future of port operations is beginning to look a lot greener.
WESTWELL has recently deepened its collaboration with Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd (WESTPORTS), Malaysia’s largest gateway container terminal, through a new partnership project cooperation agreement that signals a major step forward in sustainable logistics. The agreement will see the deployment of 60 self-developed WESTWELL E-Trucks—intelligent, connected, new-energy heavy-duty vehicles—integrated seamlessly with PowerOnair battery swap stations across the terminal.

For WESTPORTS, located along the strategic Straits of Malacca and serving as a critical hub for ASEAN and regional trade, this move aligns with a broader vision. With an expansion plan underway to nearly double its annual container handling capacity from 14 million to 27 million TEUs, the port is preparing not just for growth, but for smarter, cleaner operations.
The partnership is also a natural progression of a relationship years in the making. In 2022, WESTPORTS first commissioned WESTWELL’s flagship Q-Truck autonomous vehicle, and by 2024, WESTWELL was recognized as “Best Automation Equipment Partner” during WESTPORTS’ 30th Anniversary Gala. This latest acquisition—the single-order deployment of 60 E-Trucks—marks another milestone in that shared journey.
Designed for the demands of modern port operations, WESTWELL’s E-Trucks are powered entirely by electricity, equipped with a 282kWh high-capacity battery that delivers up to 150 kilometers of range. Zero tailpipe emissions, low noise output, and a direct-drive motor system allow the trucks to operate efficiently while significantly reducing environmental impact—an important step in WESTPORTS’ ongoing decarbonisation efforts.

Supporting this fleet is WESTWELL’s PowerOnair smart battery swap station, which enables fully automated battery changes in just five minutes. By minimizing downtime and optimizing charging through the CSS Charging Scheduling Management System, the solution enhances fleet uptime and overall terminal efficiency—quietly transforming how heavy-duty logistics operate behind the scenes.
Beyond technology, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to long-term sustainability. WESTWELL will provide localized, end-to-end lifecycle services, including maintenance, spare parts, and system upgrades, ensuring stable operations as WESTPORTS continues its transition toward a fully electrified container terminal from CT10 to CT17.
“WESTWELL has been our strategic partner throughout our terminal truck transformation journey,” shared Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, Executive Chairman of WESTPORTS. “The deployment of 60 E-Trucks and smart energy solutions will significantly enhance operational efficiency while reducing carbon emission intensity.”

For WESTWELL, the collaboration underscores a broader ambition. “With artificial intelligence and new energy at our core, we aim to develop logistics solutions that are not only innovative, but deeply aligned with real operational needs,” said Founder and Chairman Kenny Tan.
As ports across Southeast Asia rethink how goods move in an increasingly climate-conscious world, the WESTWELL–WESTPORTS collaboration offers a glimpse into what the next chapter of intelligent, low-carbon logistics can look like—quietly efficient, thoughtfully designed, and built for the long haul.
