tvN’s latest 24-hour express drama, “SECOND SHOT AT LOVE,” starring Sooyoung and Gong Myoung, is now capturing viewers’ attention! The lead cast recently shared their experiences and on-screen chemistry during the filming of this anticipated series.
When asked about their character preparations and the biggest challenges faced, Sooyoung, who plays Han Geum Ju, revealed the initial hurdles of portraying her character’s frequent drunkenness. “In the beginning, there was a drunken scene in every episode, so I thought a lot about how to act drunk in a way that felt true to the character. That part was probably the hardest challenge for me.” She also recalled a particularly memorable, yet challenging, scene from the first episode: “The most challenging scene was in episode 1, where I had to spray water like a fountain onto my mother’s face. I wasn’t very good at it, so I practiced by showering, and that’s what I remember the most.”
Gong Myoung, who portrays Seo Ui Joon, focused on the professional and relatable aspects of his doctor character. “Since ‘Seo Ui Joon’ is a doctor, I had many discussions with the director about how to deliver a tone and actions that would be trustworthy both professionally and in daily life. I think we worked together to set the direction for that.” For his most challenging moment, he cited a more lighthearted scene: “The most challenging scene was when Ui Joon helps the village elders with their tasks and ends up singing a song.”
Regarding their on-screen chemistry, both actors spoke highly of their first-time collaboration. Sooyoung praised Gong Myoung’s considerate nature: “Gong Myoung is such a kind person and always considerate of his co-actors, so the shooting was really comfortable and fun. He’s a great actor, but also a genuinely good person, and I feel so lucky to have met him as a partner in this title.”
Gong Myoung echoed this sentiment, highlighting their natural connection: “This is the first time we’re acting together, but it felt like we’ve worked together for a long time, it matched so well. Sooyoung has such a great personality, so we quickly became close and supported each other while filming.”
The drama features Sooyoung’s character, Han Geum Ju, with an addiction to alcohol. When asked about personal addictions, Sooyoung shared a preference rather than an addiction: “I don’t actually enjoy drinking much, so nothing comes up to my mind right away, but in terms of drinking, I do think the temperature of the drink is very important. When I have beer, I prefer to drink it from a cold glass, and when I have wine, I usually drink it from a tumbler that keeps it cool.” Gong Myoung emphasized the importance of rest for him: “I place a high value on sleep. I believe that sleep helps recharge my energy, so I try to sleep well. Recently, I’ve also been focusing more on my health and taking vitamin supplements.”
When asked to describe their co-star in three words, Sooyoung described Gong Myoung as “Handsome guy, First love, All-around entertainer,” while Gong Myoung used “Smart, Reliable, Partner” for Sooyoung.
Reflecting on their favorite scenes, Sooyoung pointed to an emotional moment in the first episode: “In episode 1, there’s a scene where Geum Ju cries. I think I spent a lot of time thinking about the character’s emotional journey, and since it wasn’t easy to immerse myself in it, that scene feels particularly meaningful to me.” Gong Myoung highlighted a pivotal moment for his character’s relationship: “I’m attached to the scene where Ui Joon expresses his feelings. It’s a turning point for the relationship between Ui Joon and Geum Ju, and I think both of them came across beautifully, so I’m excited to see it.”
