TP in the Philippines has donated 15 computer units to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 10 in support of its Smart Village Initiative (SVI), helping expand digital literacy and technology education in underserved communities across Northern Mindanao.
The donation reinforces TP’s commitment to equipping Filipinos with future-ready digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills, providing communities with access to training and technology that can open opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
“Through initiatives like this, TP in the Philippines continues to strengthen its role as a partner in nation-building by providing access to digital resources, computer literacy, and introductory AI knowledge—essential competencies for the evolving future of work,” said James Garcia, Vice President for IT at TP in the Philippines.
The turnover was led by TP’s Cagayan de Oro site, with the donated computers benefiting learners in three Smart Villages in Region 10: Camp Bilal in Lanao del Norte, Dalingap in Misamis Occidental, and Capihan in Bukidnon. These communities serve as pilot sites for digital transformation and inclusive rural development.
The DICT adopted the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Smart Village Initiative to help bridge the digital divide by improving internet access, expanding digital literacy, and promoting e-government services in underserved areas.
In Region 10, the initiative includes ICT training programs covering office productivity applications, introductory AI tools, and social media marketing. These courses aim to equip participants with practical digital skills that can lead to sustainable, technology-enabled careers.
The partnership between TP and DICT highlights the role of public-private collaboration in promoting inclusive growth and ensuring that rural communities benefit from the country’s digital transformation.
By expanding access to computers and foundational ICT education, the initiative seeks to create more opportunities for learning, livelihood, and participation in the growing digital economy for communities across Northern Mindanao.
