The Langham Hotels and Resorts has launched “Luminaries in Residence,” a new global event series that expands its “Your Story. Our Legacy.” brand campaign through exhibitions, performances, and cultural experiences featuring the brand’s ambassadors, known as Langham Luminaries.
The inaugural event, “The Artistry of Ayanga,” is a behind-the-scenes photography exhibition celebrating actor and composer Ayanga, one of China’s leading musical theatre talents. Widely recognized for his starring role in the Chinese production of The Phantom of the Opera, Ayanga is also the creator of the original musical The Message, based on Mai Jia’s acclaimed spy novel.
Behind the Scenes of The Message
Featuring more than 25 photographs, the exhibition offers an intimate look at the creative process behind The Message. The collection captures moments beyond the finished stage production, from quiet periods of concentration during rehearsals to the excitement of the cast and creative team following a standing ovation.
The photographs highlight Ayanga’s dedication to his craft while showcasing the collaboration and commitment required to bring the musical adaptation to life.

We are extending that tradition through ‘Luminaries in Residence’ by creating experiences that allow guests to engage more closely with our Luminaries and their work,” said Bob van den Oord, CEO of Langham Hospitality Group.
He added that Ayanga’s dedication to his craft made him a fitting choice to launch the new global initiative.
Celebrating Creative Journeys
“Luminaries in Residence” builds on The Langham’s award-winning “Your Story. Our Legacy.” campaign, launched in 2025 to celebrate influential figures across culture, design, and gastronomy whose personal stories reflect the spirit of the brand.
Ayanga became a Langham Luminary in early 2026, joining a growing community of creative talents whose work and personal journeys contribute to The Langham’s evolving cultural heritage.
The first exhibition is open to the public at The Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi until September 10, 2026.
The “Luminaries in Residence” series will continue at The Langham properties around the world, with upcoming experiences featuring Grammy Award-winning violinist and Langham Luminary Joshua Bell, alongside other collaborations to be announced.
Through the new series, The Langham continues its long-standing connection with artists and visionaries, offering guests opportunities to experience their creative journeys in more intimate and meaningful ways.
