Last year’s inaugural GCash Run went beyond a typical fitness event by planting trees for every sign-up, setting the stage for a more sustainable future. This year, the event returned not only as a purpose-driven run but also as a full-fledged wellness festival, bringing together fitness, community, and environmental advocacy.
GCash has long supported sustainability through its GForest initiative, where users earn green energy points through everyday transactions that can be redeemed to plant trees. Participants, known as “GForest Heroes,” played a key role in last year’s GCash Run, which led to the planting of 76,000 mangrove trees across 11 hectares in Negros. The second edition, held on March 22 along Ayala Avenue, gathered runners of all levels—including pets—and further expanded its environmental impact.
According to Winsley Bangit, Group Head for New Businesses of Mynt, the parent company of GCash, the event has already reached a milestone of 40,500 trees planted in partnership with Silliman University, while uniting eco-conscious brands and partners to inspire collective action. He emphasized that each participant’s effort represents a meaningful step toward a greener and more sustainable future.
This year’s event introduced the Green Hero Village, where participants explored interactive booths such as the GForest Booth, PET Bottle Collector, Medal Engraving station, and GInsure Pet Insurance. These activities combined education and engagement, encouraging eco-friendly practices even beyond the run. The event also featured a variety of attractions highlighting music, wellness, sustainable shopping, and farm-to-table products, transforming the experience into a holistic lifestyle festival.
GCash Run 2026 also showcased the power of community impact. Since 2019, GForest Heroes have contributed to planting 4.2 million trees, reforesting nearly 19,000 hectares of land, and supporting 15,000 farming families—demonstrating how digital actions can drive real-world environmental outcomes.
The event also highlighted sustainability through its “Green Hero Village,” where runners earned GCash credits, recycled materials, and engaged with eco-friendly MSMEs. Participants wore sustainable singlets made from recycled materials, while pets joined the movement in a dedicated 1km run, reinforcing that sustainability is a shared responsibility across families, including their four-legged companions.
Additional highlights included medal engraving, PR bell celebrations, and finisher rewards such as towels, symbolizing both personal achievement and environmental commitment. The event also integrated gamification through GForest, where everyday digital transactions translate into green energy points, encouraging users to continue contributing to tree-planting efforts.
GCash Run 2026 was further strengthened by the support of advocacy groups and partners, including organizations like WWF, UNICEF, Caritas Manila, and ABS-CBN Foundation, along with a wide range of corporate sponsors and eco-entrepreneurs. Together, they helped create a vibrant ecosystem that blended sustainability, innovation, and community engagement.
At its core, GCash Run 2026 demonstrated that the finish line is just the beginning of a broader journey—one that connects fitness, purpose, and environmental stewardship into a meaningful and lasting movement.
