For Filipino travellers dreaming of a European getaway, seeing several destinations in one vacation without constantly moving between cities is becoming increasingly appealing. New research commissioned by Royal Caribbean and conducted by YouGov found that 75% of Filipino respondents are interested in a multi-destination European cruise vacation, slightly above the 74% average across Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.

The findings come as Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class vacation, prepares to offer travellers a new way to explore the Mediterranean from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy.

Italy, Spain And France Top The Wishlist

Among Filipino travellers surveyed, Italy emerged as the most sought-after European destination, with 49% expressing interest in visiting. Spain followed at 43%, France at 41%, the United Kingdom at 35%, and Greece at 29%. Interest in Spain was notably higher among Filipinos than the five-market average of 33%.

Legend of the Seas brings together several highly sought-after destinations, including Palma de Mallorca, Provence, Florence/Rome, and Naples/Capri, while combining European exploration with the signature experiences of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class.

“What stood out to us from the findings is how much travellers value making the most of their time when exploring Europe,” said Ben Bouldin, President, Greater China and Managing Director, Asia, Royal Caribbean. “Legend of the Seas marks a pivotal moment as we bring an Icon Class vacation to Europe for the first time.”

A More Convenient Way To See Europe

While the idea of visiting multiple European destinations is attractive, getting between cities can be challenging. 88% of Filipino respondents said they find at least one aspect of travelling between multiple European destinations tiring or stressful. Flight delays and cancellations topped the list at 54%, followed by managing luggage between countries at 36%, long layovers at 35%, and packing and unpacking at 32%.

Cruising offers a way to combine transportation, accommodation, dining, and entertainment in one vacation. Among Filipino respondents, 49% cited the ability to see many destinations easily as a key benefit of cruising in Europe, while 51% valued having meals and entertainment included. Safety and comfort were cited by 39%, while 31% appreciated not having to repeatedly pack and unpack.

Cruise travel also ranked as the most preferred mode of inter-European travel among Filipino respondents at 34%, ahead of trains at 25%, private cars at 22%, short-haul flights at 12%, and buses or coaches at 7%.

With multiple destinations woven into one itinerary, Legend of the Seas offers another way for Filipino travellers to experience Europe while spending less time navigating between cities and more time enjoying the journey.
