Royal Caribbean is bringing the underwater world of Bikini Bottom to the high seas with The SpongeBob Musical, the first-ever at-sea production inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway show. The family-friendly production will debut aboard Hero of the Seas when the cruise line’s fourth Icon Class ship launches from Miami in August 2027.

Set in the Royal Theater, the reimagined musical will bring SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends to life through vibrant characters, hit songs, unexpected twists, and a story centered on friendship. As the residents of Bikini Bottom race to save their home from destruction, audiences can look forward to a lively adventure celebrating courage, teamwork, and the idea that heroes can come from the most unexpected places.

The production adds to Royal Caribbean’s entertainment lineup, which features experiences across stage, air, water, and ice. According to Christi Coachman, vice president of entertainment at Royal Caribbean, the show is designed to bring families together through a familiar story presented with the creativity, technology, and large-scale production the cruise line is known for.

More Family Adventures On Board

Beyond its entertainment offerings, Hero of the Seas will feature eight neighborhoods filled with attractions for families, thrill-seekers, and guests looking to unwind.

Adventure highlights include Crown’s Edge, a skywalk and zip-line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean, and Category 6, billed as the largest waterpark at sea. Guests can also enjoy nine pools, including the new Coconut Cove pool and the adults-only Hideaway, which features two pools and the largest swim-up bar at sea.

Food lovers will have 28 dining venues to explore, including the multi-course Orleans Parrish Supper Club and the immersive train-car setting of Royal Railway – Hero Station. A new venue offering hands-on cooking classes is also planned. For families seeking a more distinctive accommodation, the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse will feature a rooftop terrace, whirlpool, and dedicated two-deck teen space.

Seven-Night Caribbean Getaways

Hero of the Seas will offer seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises departing from Miami, with every itinerary including a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.

Western Caribbean sailings will feature destinations such as Cozumel, Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras. Eastern Caribbean itineraries will include Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas and Philipsburg in St. Maarten, giving travelers opportunities to explore tropical destinations alongside the ship’s onboard attractions.

With its combination of immersive entertainment, family-friendly activities, diverse dining, and Caribbean destinations, Hero of the Seas aims to deliver a vacation experience that brings together adventure and relaxation for guests of all ages.
