The Philippines’ coconut industry is a major contributor to export earnings, yet many coconut farmers remain among the country’s poorest. To help improve their livelihoods and digital know-how, PLDT and Smart supported the inaugural COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair (CTF) 2025, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and the Coconut Farmers Industry and Development Plan (CFIDP).
As part of their award-winning eBizNovation program, the PLDT Group led a session titled “Maging CyberSmart Against Online Scams”, equipping participating micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the coconut sector with practical knowledge to protect their businesses online. This initiative aligns with PLDT and Smart’s mission to accelerate digital transformation, support Filipino entrepreneurs, and strengthen MSMEs’ resilience in an increasingly connected world.
“Through eBizNovation and other digital inclusion initiatives, PLDT and Smart continue to work with government agencies to advance technology adoption that empowers MSMEs and farming communities,” said Jose Roberto A. Alampay, First Vice President and Head of Public Engagement and Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart. “By promoting cybersecurity awareness, we help ensure entrepreneurs can participate safely and confidently in the digital economy.”
The trade fair also featured DTI’s ‘Asenso Talks sa CTF’, offering a platform for MSMEs, coconut farmers, and government partners to share insights on digital innovation, industry trends, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. These collaborations aim to expand economic participation and accelerate inclusive growth across agriculture and small businesses.
By enhancing digital skills and cybersecurity awareness, PLDT and Smart are not only advancing the government’s vision for a digitally empowered Philippines but also supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions. Their efforts ensure local enterprises remain resilient, competitive, and ready to thrive in today’s evolving digital landscape.
