2K has released the official gameplay trailer for NBA 2K27, offering fans their first look at the latest installment of the long-running basketball simulation franchise ahead of its worldwide launch on September 4.

Developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, the trailer showcases enhanced graphics and gameplay while featuring some of the biggest stars in basketball, including NBA 2K27 cover athletes Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose.

The gameplay reveal also sets the stage for the franchise’s first-ever Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Reveal livestream on August 18, where 2K will unveil the game’s biggest new features, gameplay innovations, and community-driven improvements in a single presentation.

Following what 2K described as the biggest year in franchise history, the publisher said player feedback played a major role in shaping this year’s release.

Community-inspired gameplay improvements

Among the first features previewed for NBA 2K27 are refinements designed to create a more balanced and realistic on-court experience.

AI defenders have been improved to contest shots more effectively and maintain better positioning in multiplayer modes such as The REC. Meanwhile, the all-new dynamic Dunk Meter now evaluates defensive positioning throughout an entire dunk attempt, expanding the timing window for uncontested finishes while reducing it when defenders recover late.

More customization for MyPLAYER

NBA 2K27 also introduces major updates to the MyPLAYER Builder, increasing the total number of available Badges from 40 to 53, including 19 brand-new Badges that encourage players to create more specialized builds.

The popular Cap Breakers feature also returns, with players now able to preview attribute boosts directly within the Builder before finalizing their character.

Biggest MyTEAM Auction House yet

For the first time in franchise history, the MyTEAM Auction House will be unified across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The shared marketplace creates the largest pool of community-listed cards ever available in MyTEAM, giving players greater card availability and more consistent pricing. Cards purchased through auctions will also be added instantly to collections, eliminating the previous verification delay.

Franchise mode gets modern NBA updates

Fans of MyNBA can expect updates that reflect today’s NBA landscape, including salary cap changes based on the league’s latest collective bargaining agreement and the ability to offer No-Trade Clauses during free agency.

2K said additional franchise mode enhancements will be revealed during the August showcase.

A new look for The City

In MyCAREER, The City receives a fresh nighttime visual makeover while retaining its centralized layout following positive feedback from last year’s edition.

The legendary Rucker Park has also been recreated and will serve as the backdrop for this year’s MyCAREER prelude story, “Fire & Concrete,” as well as the Street Kings mode.

Launch details

NBA 2K27 launches worldwide on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition or Ultra Edition will receive Early Access beginning August 28 at 9:00 a.m. PDT, allowing them to hit the court nearly a week before the official release.

2K will reveal additional gameplay details, modes, and features during the Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Reveal livestream on August 18, which will be broadcast live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and X.
