Luxury Maison has launched two new limited edition writing instrument collections, the Legend of Zodiacs – The Horse Limited Edition 512 and A Journey Among Dragons – The Coiling Dragon Limited Editions 88 and 8. These instruments celebrate the myths and legends of East Asian culture, blending storytelling and symbolism with Montblanc craftsmanship and creativity. The Legend of Zodiacs – The Horse Limited Edition 512, inspired by the seventh sign of the Chinese zodiac, represents the spirit of freedom, passion, and endurance. The limited editions celebrate the Year of the Horse, which begins on February 17, 2026, and herald a year of dynamic energy, ambition, and inventiveness.

The cap, crafted from Ag 925 sterling silver, is adorned with a skillful recreation of a hand-engraved horse, standing in elegant motion, evoking the legendary “tianma,” the heavenly horses of ancient China, renowned for their speed and grace. Surrounding the horse, motifs of “lucky clouds” bring blessings of fortune. At the same time, the platinum-coated barrel is delicately engraved with a pattern inspired by the Chinese knot, a symbol of luck and longevity. A topaz gemstone, the birthstone of the horse, is set into the cone, further enriching the story of vitality and auspiciousness. The following year of the horse, 2026, is engraved on the cap ring alongside the six previous years of the horse.

The solid Au 750 gold nib is decorated with a flying horse motif, symbolizing the spirit’s journey to higher realms, while the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl crowns the cap. Limited to 512 pieces globally, this edition honours the animal’s legendary attributes and the auspicious number eight, multiplied three times to enhance prosperity (8x8x8).

The edition is completed by matching accessories, available separately, including cufflinks, a fine stationery notebook adorned with the illustration of a red horse, and a deep red ink, housed in a Montblanc ink bottle and presented in a box decorated with the same design.

Dragons occupy a revered place in East Asian lore as one of the oldest and most essential creatures with high spiritual power, guardians of wisdom, harbingers of rain and fortune. Among them, the Coiling Dragon (Panlong) is one of the most mystical: a benevolent spirit hidden in deep waters and secret skies, symbolising the bond between heaven and Earth. Some of the finest ancient Chinese bronze vessels, mirrors, and rings, considered of great artistic and aesthetic sophistication, are adorned with the coiled body of Panlong.

The dragon’s sinuous form unfurls across the Ag 925 sterling silver cap and barrel in this edition. Its head, sculpted in high relief, gazes out with eyes set with citrines. At the same time, its diamond-studded body moulds itself to the barrel as a delicate engraving underneath a translucent colour-gradient lacquer. The gradient, from deep to light yellow, reflects traditional Chinese philosophy, in which yellow symbolises the element Earth. As part of the dragon’s earth aspect, it is associated with control over weather and nature.

The design is elevated with solid Au 750 signature gold fittings and a citrine set in the cone to match the colour of the dragon’s eyes. A motif of a Chinese pavilion decorates the handcrafted nib made of solid Au 750 gold. It is shown surrounded by water in honour of the mythical Shen (蜃 meaning ‘mirage’), another type of dragon.

Pavilion structures of this kind serve as places of tranquillity and meditation. The cap top is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl, inlaid in black onyx and covered with sapphire glass.

The Limited Edition 8 reinterprets the Coiling Dragon in opulent style as an artful hand-engraving. The solid Au 750 white gold body is fully set with yellow sapphires, representing Earth’s nurturing powers. To match the colour of the dragon’s body, its eyes and the cone are set with further yellow sapphires. In contrast, the dragon’s solid Au 750 gold head and claws shimmer with signature gold coating—a Montblanc diamond crowns the cap, surrounded by a constellation of brilliant-cut diamonds.

Each detail in the design echoes the ancient art and mythology of the East, from the flowing dragon spine to the delicately engraved pavilion surrounded by water that signifies serenity and enlightenment. A hand-engraved pattern, symbolising a Chinese knot for bringing good fortune, enriches the barrel of the edition. An engraving of the dragon’s head on the solid Au 750 signature gold forepart further enhances the overall design.

With its Signs & Symbols collection, Montblanc honours the profound wisdom of Asian culture, blending time-honoured traditions with the Maison’s spirit of innovation. These writing instruments are more than tools for self-expression – they are symbols of prosperity, luck, and creativity.
