OPM singer-songwriter Maki and singer-actor James Reid have teamed up for the first time on the new single “luck,” a collaboration that blends alternative and indie-pop influences into a song about taking chances in love.
Released under Tarsier Records, “luck” likens falling in love to placing a bet—an emotional gamble where there are no guarantees, only the hope that the risk will ultimately be worth taking.
Maki co-wrote the track with an international team of songwriters and producers composed of Gaby Ramirez, Pontus Kalm, Greg Shilling, and Shintaro Yasuda, whose previous credits include work with global artists such as Ariana Grande, BTS, LE SSERAFIM, aespa, and BINI.
The single also continues Maki’s ongoing “pink era,” which began with his previous release, “habangbuhay pansamantala.” The latest track further expands the colorful and emotionally driven musical world he has been building through his recent releases.
The collaboration follows Maki’s successful “KOLORCOASTER” tour, which brought him to Indonesia and Singapore, where he performed fan favorites including “Dilaw,” “Namumula,” and “kahel na langit.” During his Indonesia stop, he also appeared on the country’s popular comedy program “Lapor Pak!”, introducing both his music and personality to a wider international audience.
James Reid, meanwhile, continues to evolve his musical style through his signature blend of alternative pop, R&B, and contemporary OPM. With more than a decade in the entertainment industry, Reid has built a reputation for constantly exploring new creative directions.
Earlier this year, he released the single “Richest Man Alive,” and is currently part of the cast of the ABS-CBN primetime series “Someone, Someday.”
“luck” is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
