Sleep Better For A Healthier Future

By Dexter Francis De Vera

Sleep may be a normal aspect of life that it might seem not sensible to even talk about it. It can be one of the most common, underrated aspects of our daily lives. But for those who have been suffering from sleep problems, getting the right amount of sleep, more so the quality of sleep, can be a real challenge.

March 19 is World Sleep Day. Celebrated since 2008, the annual event organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society is a global awareness act commemorating the importance of sleep and aims to help those with serious sleep problems. World Sleep Day has over 155 activities held across the globe and is participated by over 70 countries yearly.

Uratex, the Philippines’ leading manufacturer of foams and mattresses, hosted its first-ever virtual World Sleep Day celebration with an exclusive, digital slumber-party-theme event in line with its #BetterSleepBetterU campaign.

The #BetterSleepBetterU kick-off last March 15 was successfully attended by remarkable celebrities, media, and medical professionals with various talks on sleep-related issues, sleep information, and the social effects that sleep deprivation can have on everyday life.

Uratex ambassadress Heart Evangelista-Escudero greeted everyone a Happy World Sleep Day as she shares how quality of sleep helps her become a better version of herself. “I truly stand by this because even when I’m having a really busy day and my schedule is full, I make up for it through sleep—I always rely on good sleep to keep me fresh, energized, and keep my skin glowing. I think this is the best gift you can give yourself especially during this pandemic when we need a very strong immune system to get through each day.”

Sleep advocates Doug and Cheska Kramer also talked about their bedtime routine, sleep habits, and how sleep has helped them feel more relaxed during the pandemic. Doug and Cheska share, “Sleep for us is very important. I don’t know if people noticed but when we did our home-tour video, every single mattress in our house is all Uratex Premium Touch Viscoluxe. And if you have a nice mattress, you save yourself from having backaches, sleepless nights, and all these things that come in when your mattress is not so good.”

“The truth is, we spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping. The best investment for your life is getting a good bed. Sleep is a basic human need, much like eating and drinking, and is crucial to our overall health and well-being. Good sleep is practically free—you just have to help yourself,” says Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine Inc. president Dr. Keith Aguilera.
