Singapore, January 13, 2026 – Chinatown is set to welcome the Year of the Horse with the return of the much-anticipated Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations, running from January 18 to March 18, 2026. The historic precinct will come alive with a festive street light-up, cultural performances, weekend workshops, and the return of the International Lion Dance Competition.

This year’s street light-up, themed “Galloping into the Prosperous Year”, draws inspiration from traditional Chinese paper-cutting with a modern interpretation. At its heart stands an 8.8-meter golden horse centerpiece, symbolizing momentum, unity, and collective progress. Surrounding installations feature 60 galloping horses and 48 fruit motifs, accented with orchids and peonies to reflect prosperity and renewal.

The Official Street Light-Up & Opening Ceremony will take place on January 30, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Kreta Ayer Square and will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. Cultural performances celebrating Singapore’s multicultural identity will highlight the evening, blending Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western artistic traditions. The ceremony will be officiated by Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, and Mr David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

Festivities continue with the Chinese New Year Countdown Party on February 16–17, as well as the return of the International Lion Dance Competition on February 7–8, featuring top troupes from Singapore and across the region. Community workshops, including Chinese paper cutting and mandarin orange carrier crafts, will also be held throughout the season.

In line with sustainability efforts, the celebrations will feature energy-efficient installations and the return of the Lantern Adoption Programme, allowing the public to give used lanterns a second life.

Through a rich mix of tradition, artistry, and community spirit, the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2026 invite locals and visitors alike to usher in the Year of the Horse with unity, optimism, and festive cheer.
