CARMELLE is officially set to represent the Philippines at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 after winning the country’s highly anticipated Philippine Selection Night with “Sobra-Sobra.”
Composed by Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides, the powerful women’s empowerment anthem emerged as the winning entry during the live competition held on August 30 at the New Frontier Theatre.
CARMELLE, who first gained recognition after winning “Tawag ng Tanghalan: The School Showdown,” will now take the Philippine stage to the international competition in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 14.
Finishing second was “Broken Beyond Repair,” written by Angelo Gonzales and performed by Tawag ng Tanghalan alumnus SAGA. Taking third place was “Mapadama,” written by Jeremy G and Jungee Marcelo and performed by Tawag ng Tanghalan Duets Season 1 champion JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano.
The top three entries emerged from a field of 10 competing songs. Other finalists included DNA, Esang, Elha, Lance Reblando, Nar Cabico, Jason Dy, Sassa, Ryssi Avila, AJAA, KHIMO, VVINK, and WRIVE Russu.
The results were determined through a combination of 40% jury votes, 40% votes from Philippine viewers, and 20% international public votes. The jury featured industry veterans including Nonoy Tan, Choi Padilla, Joane Laygo, Louie Ocampo, Angeline Quinto, Jed Madela, and Vina Morales.
The selection night opened with “Mabuhay ang Musikang Pilipino,” composed by ABS-CBN Music’s Jonathan Manalo and performed by AZTER, Bryan Chong, Ian Manibale, Klarisse de Guzman, Lyka Estrella, MIAH, and Reiven Umali.
Hosted by Vice Ganda, Alexa Ilacad, and Darren, the event streamed live on iWant and aired across ABS-CBN platforms, with the show also making waves on X as multiple Eurovision-related topics trended in the Philippines.
With “Sobra-Sobra” leading the way, CARMELLE now carries the Philippines’ hopes into the historic first Eurovision Asia competition this November.
