Singaporean pop artist Estelle Fly returns with Shut It Down, a playful club-pop single that encourages listeners to stop overthinking, embrace the moment, and make the dance floor their own.
Inspired by the Rihanna and Kesha tracks she used to play while getting ready for a night out, the new release channels the carefree excitement of club-pop nostalgia. It invites listeners to put their phones away, get dressed up, meet their friends, and enjoy themselves—even when life feels complicated.
Shut It Down captures those nights when friends convince you to stop worrying and head out instead of waiting for a text or checking your phone. As Estelle puts it, “Your problems will still be there tomorrow, but you deserve to enjoy yourself tonight.”
“I’ve always loved singing and dancing, so making a song like this feels very natural to me,” says Estelle. “I love the club songs from Rihanna and Kesha that we used to get ready and go out to, and I still listen to them now. I wanted to make something that gives me that same excitement, and let myself have a bit more fun with my music.”
That energy carries into a chorus designed for listeners to sing along to, complete with the playful, slightly bratty attitude Estelle brings to the track. Blending nostalgic club-pop influences with her own personality, the single brings together her love of singing, dancing, and performance.
“I wanted that feeling where you might be quite shy normally, but once this song comes on, suddenly the world disappears and the dance floor is yours,” she says.
When asked what she hopes listeners will feel after hearing the song, Estelle offers a cheeky answer: “Honestly, a little hotter than they did three minutes ago.”
She also hopes the track reminds people that having fun does not have to wait until everything in life falls into place. “We spend so much time trying to have everything together. Sometimes you need to sing too loudly, dance with your friends and remember that you’re allowed to have fun even when life is complicated.”
Following her July release Bury It, Shut It Down is available to stream now.
