As Filipino families continue to face rising living costs and financial pressures, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is partnering with GCash to make government assistance more accessible through digital disbursements under the DSWD UPLIFT Assistance Program.
The initiative gives eligible beneficiaries the option to receive succeeding cash assistance payouts directly through their GCash wallets, offering a more convenient alternative to collecting funds in person. The expanded program supports the government’s Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT), established under Executive Order No. 110 to help protect vulnerable sectors from the effects of global oil shocks and rising inflation.
Through DSWD, the targeted assistance is expected to reach 7.5 million households. While initial payouts will be distributed in cash, beneficiaries are encouraged to shift to digital channels for subsequent disbursements to reduce the time and resources needed to access government support.
Making Government Assistance More Accessible
As part of the UPLIFT Caravan, GCash is helping beneficiaries set up their accounts so those who choose the digital option can receive future assistance through the GCash Fund Disbursement Service (FDS).
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the initiative follows the President’s directive to distribute financial aid quickly and conveniently to families who need immediate relief. He also encouraged beneficiaries without digital wallets to create accounts to make future payouts easier to receive.
Gatchalian emphasized that beneficiaries receiving the ₱2,000 assistance from now through December can opt to have succeeding payouts sent directly to their digital wallets.
GCash Vice President and Head of B2B Sales Cleo Celeste Santos said the company is committed to helping expand access to government services through digital financial solutions.
“Access is not only about receiving support, but also about making the experience more convenient, secure, and dignified for the people we serve,” Santos said, highlighting the importance of giving beneficiaries greater choice in how they receive and manage their assistance.
Supporting Financial Inclusion Through Digital Services
The DSWD-GCash partnership highlights how digital payment channels can help reduce barriers to government assistance while supporting broader financial inclusion. By making future payouts accessible through a digital wallet, the initiative aims to give eligible households a more convenient way to manage financial support as they navigate rising living costs.
