Exploring several European destinations in one trip is an appealing prospect for Filipino travellers, especially for those looking to spend less time managing travel logistics and more time enjoying their vacation. New research commissioned by Royal Caribbean and conducted by YouGov found that 75% of Filipino respondents find a multi-destination European cruise appealing, compared with the 74% average across Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.

The findings arrive as Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, introduces Mediterranean itineraries departing from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy.

Exploring Europe With Greater Convenience

Italy is the most sought-after European destination among Filipino respondents, with 49% expressing interest in visiting, followed by Spain at 43%, France at 41%, the United Kingdom at 35%, and Greece at 29%. Interest in Spain is particularly notable, sitting 10 percentage points above the five-market average of 33%.

Despite the appeal of visiting multiple countries, 88% of Filipino respondents said travelling between European destinations can involve at least one tiring or stressful experience. Flight delays and cancellations were cited by 54%, followed by managing luggage between countries at 36%, long layovers at 35%, and packing and unpacking at 32%.

Cruising offers an alternative that combines transportation, accommodation, dining, and entertainment. Among Filipino respondents, 49% valued the ability to visit multiple destinations easily, while 51% appreciated having meals and entertainment included. Safety and comfort appealed to 39%, and 31% welcomed not having to pack and unpack between destinations.

Cruises were also the most preferred mode of inter-European travel among Filipino respondents, at 34%, ahead of trains at 25%, private cars at 22%, short-haul flights at 12%, and buses or coaches at 7%.

More To Experience Onboard Legend Of The Seas

Beyond its Mediterranean ports of call, Legend of the Seas offers entertainment, attractions, and dining designed to make time at sea part of the vacation. The survey found that 91% of Filipino respondents were interested in onboard entertainment, while 87% expressed interest in the ship’s thrill and leisure experiences.

Among the highlights, 48% were interested in America’s Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas, featuring performers from the Got Talent universe. Family-friendly Surfside Neighbourhood and Category 6 Waterpark, the largest waterpark at sea, each attracted interest from 35% of Filipino respondents.

Dining is another draw, with 22% interested in Chops Grille, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse, and 20% looking forward to Royal Railway – Legend Station, an immersive train-car dining experience featuring a five-course journey inspired by the ancient Silk Routes. The Hollywoodland Supper Club, offering a multi-course dining experience inspired by Hollywood’s golden age, attracted interest from 16%.

“Legend of the Seas marks a pivotal moment as we bring an Icon Class vacation to Europe for the first time,” said Ben Bouldin, President, Greater China and Managing Director, Asia, Royal Caribbean. He added that the experience gives Asian travellers another way to explore multiple European destinations in one trip.
