Beyoncé celebrates her birthday with the release of the 20th Anniversary Edition of B’DAY, the acclaimed second album that marked a defining chapter in her evolution as a singer, songwriter, producer, and visual artist.
Originally released on September 4, 2006, B’DAY introduced the world to a 25-year-old Beyoncé who was taking greater control of her creative direction. Recorded during an intense two-week session, the album blended powerful R&B vocals and harmonies with hip-hop influences, live instrumentation, and hard-hitting production.
“I wanted the album to be big, percussive, hard, up-tempo, and energized,” Beyoncé recalls, describing her goal of preserving the melodies and harmonies of R&B while incorporating the sound of hip-hop through sampling.
The anniversary edition revisits the album’s visual legacy as well. Music videos originally shot on 35mm film have been remastered, recolored, and finished in 4K, including “Déjà Vu” featuring JAY-Z and directed by Sophie Muller. Previously unseen images captured in New Orleans are also included, highlighting the city’s resilience following Hurricane Katrina.
The expanded release introduces new material and collaborations, including “MORNING DEW (DONK)” and a new Spanish-language offering. “Cuerpo Tumbao (Get Me Bodied)” featuring Maluma samples Celia Cruz’s “La Negra Tiene Tumbao,” while “Irreemplazable (Como La Flor)” featuring Selena brings together Beyoncé and the late Mexican American icon through previously recorded vocals.
The Deluxe Vinyl comes as a four-LP set pressed on 180g Bayou Blue vinyl, featuring a 60-page commemorative booklet and collectible art prints. It also includes previously unreleased and B-side tracks such as “Can I Watch You” featuring Pharrell, “My First Time,” “Lost Yo Mind,” “Creole,” and “Back Up.”
The B’DAY 20th Anniversary Edition is available in standard and deluxe formats on vinyl and CD, as well as a 31-track Digital Deluxe Edition, offering longtime fans and new listeners an expanded look at one of Beyoncé’s landmark albums.
