Naga City-based band IDLEPITCH is stepping into a fresh musical era with the release of “Salamangkera,” a funky, city pop-infused rock single that blends nostalgic influences with the band’s evolving sound.

Inspired by MOR and ’80s grooves, the track turns the familiar feeling of being captivated by someone into a playful metaphor about attraction, enchantment, and losing yourself in the process.

Guitarist and composer Herbert Belbes reveals that the song was partly inspired by the ’80s band America and their track “You Can Do Magic.” The idea centers on a romantic interest who seemingly disappears after charming someone completely—much like a salamangkera who leaves her spell behind.

What began as a simple phone-recorded demo eventually developed into a polished arrangement through the band’s collaboration with producer and co-writer Ahmad Tanji. His creative input encouraged IDLEPITCH to explore new approaches to both the arrangement and lyrics.

The arrival of keyboardist Jeremy Pronto also played an important role in shaping the track. Originally built around a guitar riff, the song’s opening was transformed for keyboards, creating the distinctive horn-like sound and unmistakable ’80s pop character.

“Salamangkera” draws inspiration from Pinoy funk, Manila Sound, yacht rock, and artists that influenced the band during its early years, including Kala and P.O.T. The result combines funk-driven grooves, melodic elements, Filipino lyricism, and nostalgic pop-rock textures.

The new single marks another step in IDLEPITCH’s evolution from its early rock roots toward a more funk-driven and contemporary sound.

From Garage Band to Naga’s Music Scene

Formed in 2005 as a high school garage project, IDLEPITCH initially drew from ’90s Pinoy rock and early 2000s nu metal. Over the years, the Naga-based band developed its sound through independent releases and live performances.

The group released its self-produced debut album, One Way Trip, in 2019, followed by singles including “Cutout,” “Iisang Dugo,” “Febbie,” “Parusa,” and “Hari.”

Now working with Wonder Collab Studios and distributor Underdog Music, IDLEPITCH is embracing funk-driven arrangements, classic Manila Sound sensibilities, and modern alternapop influences.

“Salamangkera” is now available on all major digital music platforms worldwide.
