Seasoned actress and host Gladys Reyes is making her debut in the recording scene with “Primera Kontrabida,” a playful novelty pop song inspired by the iconic villainous roles that have defined her decades-long career.
The campy track celebrates Reyes’ enduring reputation as showbiz’s “Primera Kontrabida” while delivering a tongue-in-cheek reminder that real-life evil can take forms beyond the screen—including dishonesty, manipulation, and greed.
Ahead of the song’s release, StarPop teased fans with photos of Reyes portraying some of her most memorable kontrabida characters, including Betsy in Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes, Mayet in Ang the Breadwinner Is…, Salve in Here Comes the Groom, and Clara in Mara Clara.
Reyes first performed “Primera Kontrabida” live during the “Primera Kontrabida Sings” event at Riser Lounge on August 1.
The song was composed by ABS-CBN Music creatives, content, and operations head Jonathan Manalo, who also co-produced the track with StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
