adidas Basketball has launched the Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas,” a Philippines-exclusive edition of NBA star Anthony Edwards’ signature basketball shoe inspired by the country’s vibrant basketball culture.

Created exclusively for the Philippine market, the release celebrates the passion, pride, and community spirit that define local hoops—from barangay courts to competitive leagues.

As the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas, adidas said the special edition reflects its continued commitment to supporting Philippine basketball through products and storytelling rooted in local culture.

Inspired by bayanihan

Designed by Filipino creative Melvin Rodas, the Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” incorporates elements that pay tribute to Filipino identity and the value of bayanihan, or communal unity.

The shoe features a gradient of blue shades across the upper, symbolizing a community working together from day to night. A vibrant red sockliner references the Philippine flag, while lime yellow stitching represents a contemporary interpretation of the sun’s rays.

Several hidden details further highlight its local inspiration. The inner tongues display the phrases “Magpakitang Gilas” on the left shoe and “Shine for the Squad” on the right, while the lace tips are engraved with the words “Pilipinas” and “Basketball.”

The upper also features a custom debossed three-stripe weave pattern that combines Filipino-inspired textures with adidas’ signature branding.

Built for performance

The Anthony Edwards 2 retains the performance features of the signature line, including:

  • Lightstrike midsole for speed and responsiveness
  • Boost cushioning for comfort and impact protection
  • Secure fit designed for quick cuts and explosive movement on the court

According to adidas, the shoe is designed to match the fast, instinctive, and expressive style of basketball commonly seen across the Philippines.

Celebrating Filipino basketball

For Rodas, the collaboration was an opportunity to tell a story shared by Filipino basketball fans.

“Being able to work with adidas for this goes beyond designing a shoe—it’s about what it means to tell everyone’s story,” Rodas said.

“I wanted the design to reflect what basketball means to Filipinos: pride, teamwork, and bayanihan. The idea was to create something built by many and worn with pride—and something that carries the spirit of the Philippines in every detail.”

Developed through adidas Philippines’ partnership with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the release reinforces the brand’s efforts to grow the sport locally while highlighting Filipino culture through basketball.

The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” has been available since June 26 for ₱8,000 at adidas Philippines’ online store and select adidas retail outlets.
