Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, marked Earth Month with a community-driven tree-planting initiative in the Sierra Madre mountain range, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.

On April 11, 2026, more than 100 FedEx volunteers partnered with the GreenEarth Foundation to plant 2,000 malunggay (moringa) trees in San Miguel, Bulacan. The effort covered approximately 5,000 square meters and aimed to support long-term reforestation and community development.

Native to the Philippines, malunggay was chosen for its resilience, rapid growth, and wide-ranging benefits—from improving soil health and biodiversity to providing nutritional value that can support local livelihoods.

“Environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility,” said Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Philippines. “Through volunteering, our team members are helping rebuild forest cover, support biodiversity, and strengthen ecosystems that surrounding communities depend on.”

The initiative comes as the Philippines continues to face significant deforestation challenges. Over the past two decades, the country has lost more than 1.4 million hectares of tree cover, placing increasing pressure on ecosystems and climate resilience.

Reforestation efforts like this help restore vegetation, prevent soil degradation, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for nearby communities.

The tree-planting activity forms part of FedEx Cares, the company’s global community engagement program focused on driving positive social and environmental impact through volunteerism, in-kind shipping, and charitable giving.

Through initiatives like these, FedEx continues to support environmental protection while fostering stronger, more resilient communities across the Philippines.
