Filipino singer-songwriter Gab Cabangon is back with “Kama,” a soothing guitar-pop track that celebrates the simple comfort of resting in someone else’s arms after a long day. Written by Cabangon himself, the song serves as a gentle reminder that rest isn’t a reward—it’s a necessity in a world that rarely slows down.
“I wanted to write a comforting love song about how it’s okay to allow yourself to rest and lean on the people who matter,” Gab shares. “We live in such a fast-paced, demanding world, but we don’t have to face it alone. Sometimes, taking a pause helps us recharge before moving forward. Hanapin mo ang iyong pahinga, as I would say.”
While “Kama” is undeniably an intimate love song, it also resonates with the realities of modern work culture, reflecting on environments that prioritize productivity and numbers over well-being and balance.
Gab wrote the song one evening after work, feeling drained and stressed. “I started thinking about solving all my problems immediately, even though I was exhausted. Then I decided to take a break and write a song as a way to process my thoughts. At that time, I was listening heavily to songs like Kumot by Solace Out the Door, Tulog Na by Sugarfree, and Janice by Dilaw. The result was ‘Kama.’”
Produced by Gab Cabangon and David Lina, and mixed and mastered by Shadiel Chan and Jan Fuertez, the track blends bedroom pop with R&B textures, revealing a soulful side of Gab that fans haven’t seen before. While slightly diverging from his signature stripped-down style, “Kama” maintains the warm, melodic intimacy that defines his music.
“I’m excited to see how people respond,” Gab says. “It’s definitely less ‘sadboi,’ but you’ll still feel the singer-songwriter vibe from my previous work.”
“Kama” features backing vocals from vydd and Kyla Miel Camerong of Solace Out the Door, with additional harmonies by Gab’s wife, Angeli. The track is further enriched by trumpet and flugelhorn contributions from his friend Gabriel Lazaro, adding layers to the song’s sonic palette.
