FWD Life Insurance Corporation (FWD) has teamed up with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to launch The One for pet lovers, a life insurance innovation designed to help pet owners plan for their pets’ care if they pass away, while supporting animal welfare initiatives nationwide.
The partnership comes at a crucial time. An estimated 12 million stray dogs and cats in the Philippines face abandonment or neglect, often due to unprepared pet ownership or sudden loss of their owners. PAWS currently houses 248 rescued animals and, in collaboration with local government units, has provided free spay and neuter services to nearly 2,000 pets from indigent families—highlighting the need for responsible planning.
The One for pet lovers allows owners to secure a pet’s future by selecting a trusted guardian as the policy beneficiary, leaving clear care instructions, and including pets in their estate plans. Since pets cannot directly inherit money or property, these arrangements ensure their well-being is protected financially. At a recent PAWS event, FWD emphasized that pet ownership is a lifelong responsibility, akin to caring for a dependent child, and this insurance helps bridge the gap when owners are no longer around.

“At FWD, we believe financial inclusion and education empower people to protect what matters most,” said Gavin Lai, FWD Chief Marketing and Digital Commerce Officer. “This product ensures that protection extends beyond people to the pets they love, making insurance meaningful and accessible.”
A portion of every policy purchased goes directly to PAWS, supporting its Animal Rehabilitation Center, medical care, and anti-cruelty initiatives. Sharon Yap, PAWS Education and Campaigns Officer, added, “Financial responsibility is key to responsible pet ownership, and initiatives like this help ensure pets are cared for even when life takes unexpected turns.”
