Couchbase, Inc., the developer data platform powering critical AI applications, has announced major upgrades to its Couchbase Mobile platform, enabling AI-powered applications to run seamlessly on devices at the disconnected edge. With the new JavaScript support for Couchbase Lite, developers can now embed the database into any web browser, creating offline-first web apps that synchronize across web, mobile, desktop, and custom hardware applications.

The platform also introduces enhanced peer-to-peer (P2P) data synchronization, including device auto-discovery and dynamic network switching, allowing applications to adapt as users join or leave networks. These improvements ensure offline collaboration at the edge, while other upgrades boost deployment resilience, failover, and continuous availability even without internet connectivity.

“Building AI applications for the edge means delivering fast, personalized, and always-on experiences, even in disconnected environments,” said Matt McDonough, SVP of Product at Couchbase. “These latest enhancements help developers ship applications faster while ensuring uptime under any conditions.”

Retail technology provider Aptos leverages Couchbase Capella™ to power its modern POS system, enabling reliable, cloud-to-device data synchronization across stores. John Carney, VP at Aptos, highlighted that Couchbase Mobile’s P2P replication reduced infrastructure from 12 deployments with 100+ nodes to a single deployment with 31 nodes, delivering over $1 million in annual savings while maintaining an always-on customer experience.

Couchbase Mobile unifies cloud, edge, and device data, eliminating the need for complex multi-platform integration. Alongside XDCR multi-cluster resilience and the Couchbase Edge Server, the platform supports zero-downtime disaster recovery, seamless failover, and offline-first applications in resource-constrained environments like retail stores, warehouses, and airplanes.
