Samsung Electronics showcased its latest home appliance lineup at the global launch event, ‘Welcome to ‘BESPOKE AI’, held in Seoul, Paris, and New York City. The company shared its vision for how connectivity can improve the overall home experience and how artificial intelligence (AI) enhances appliance performance. Jong-Hee Han, Vice Chairman, CEO, and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, explained that Samsung home appliances can perform well with usual tasks but can perform more with AI applied. Bespoke appliances, such as refrigerators, induction ranges, and laundry machines, can become entertainment platforms and control hubs for other connected Samsung appliances through SmartThings. Samsung Electronics has presented customized appliances since its first introduction in 2019, and now shares its vision for AI in appliances, expanding the Bespoke legacy through enhanced connectivity and AI capabilities.

Bespoke AI Appliances Sync to Create New Experiences in Various Home Spaces

Samsung’s latest Bespoke AI appliances feature built-in Wi-Fi, internal cameras, AI chips, and compatibility with the SmartThings application. The new AI Home, a connected 7-inch LCD display, offers intuitive access and control over the connected ecosystem. It makes housework easier and more enjoyable by allowing users to play favorite songs, watch videos, and refer to recipes on the screen. Mobile Smart Connect alerts phones when they are close to registered appliances, allowing them to execute key functions directly from their phones. This eliminates the need for searching for remote control and saves time. Samsung also highlights its Knox security platform, which protects all user data on connected appliances, ensuring users can trust in the hyper-connected home appliances driven by technological advancements.

AI Expands Spectrum of Features to Samsung Home Appliances

The Seoul ‘BESPOKE AI’ event showcased 14 new products, including the Bespoke French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™+, Bespoke Infinite Induction Line, Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ AI, Bespoke Jet AI™, Bespoke Cube™ Air Infinite Line, and the new 2024 4-Door refrigerator with peltier technology. The 4-Door French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™ is the primary control center for all things food, connecting the refrigerator to other appliances in the home. It features an AI Vision Inside that uses an internal camera to identify 33 fresh food items that go in and out of the fridge. The recognized food items are listed and managed on the Family Hub™ display and can be checked on the SmartThings app.

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ AI is a robot vacuum and mop cleaner with intelligent AI Recognition, performing various tasks such as Object Recognition, Floor Detect, and Clean Station Steam+. The Clean Station Steam+ offers features for automatically maintaining the device, such as emptying the dust bag, refilling the water tank, washing, and intensively steam cleaning the mop.

The Paris ‘BESPOKE AI’ event introduced the new energy-efficient extra wide fridge freezer and washer lineup. The extra wide fridge freezer received an “A” grade according to European energy standards thanks to Samsung’s new AI Inverter Compressor. The new washer lineup includes various models from A-10% to A-40%, with the A-40% extra energy-efficient model equipped with Bubble Shot Technology, which saves water and cycle time by pumping up water inside the drum and spraying it on top of clothes.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™, presented at both Seoul and NYC events, is the All-in-One washer and dryer, providing the advantages of two separate appliances while freeing up valuable space. It comes with various AI features, such as remembering the periodic and seasonal needs of users and recommending the optimal cycle for the wash. With AI Opti Wash & Dry™, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™ intelligently adjusts the washing and drying performance for each load and senses the weight of the laundry to dispense the appropriate amount of water and detergent. It also detects the fabric and monitors the level of soiling during a cycle. If necessary, it adds more detergent and varies the washing time. It then adjusts the drying process to suit the weight and fabric type of users’ laundry. After finishing the cycle, users can monitor how much energy and water were consumed through the report provided on the Smart Things App.

Samsung has introduced a unique Bespoke Slide-in Range with AI Home at the New York event. This multi-functional induction range features an Internal Oven Camera that allows users to see inside the oven from remote locations, such as on TV or outside the home through Smart Things on mobile phones. Users can also capture a time-lapse video clip of the cooking process, which can be shared on social media. Samsung is also implementing generative AI to home appliances, particularly Bixby, its voice assistant. Generative AI will enable Bixby to understand complex sentences and engage in natural conversations, enabling it to execute one order at a time and understand compound demands. It can also retain context from previous interactions for continuity. Users can rely on Bixby to provide solutions to complex tasks, such as addressing humid conditions or deciding on how to use potatoes. Bixby will interpret these tasks and respond naturally to users’ prompts.

Advancing the Future of Appliances.

Samsung is committed to enhancing the home experience and creating innovative and efficient products. The company has introduced new product lineups and features, as well as global changes in Wi-Fi connected appliances. Smart Forward, a service that provides newest features, security patches, and upgrades through regular software updates, ensures users have peace of mind and reduces appliance replacement frequency.

SmartThings continues to evolve, offering energy savings features like Optimal Charging and SmartThings Energy, allowing users to monitor and control their consumption. Samsung plans to launch its new Samsung Rewards program, which allows users to earn stamps each day for saving energy using AI Energy mode. Accumulated stamps can be converted and used at Samsung.com, Samsung Galaxy store, and other purchase platforms.

Samsung aims to utilize next-generation technologies to prolong product lifecycles and reduce replacement frequency. Methods introduced include Hybrid Cooling, which incorporates high-power ‘Peltier’ thermoelectric components and a compressor, and low-maintenance filters for air purifiers. Product safety is also a priority, with Samsung striving to achieve and expand certifications across all appliance categories, including reduced fire risk (RFR) certification for new products.

At the event, Samsung announced a collaboration with Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” to communicate the features of its new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™. A co-branded teaser video showcased Inside Out 2 clips and how the new washing machine can alleviate stress from laundry with AI Bubble™.
